The Metered tier trap.
Zoom Phone Metered at £8.07/user/mo is the cheapest UK SaaS PBX licence. The trap is the per-minute calling rate: ~£0.024/min to UK landlines, ~£0.10/min to UK mobiles. For typical SME usage profiles:
- Light usage (5 min/user/day outbound): ~£15 extra per user per month in call charges. Real Metered cost ~£23/user — close to Pro tier (£11.84/user with unlimited).
- Moderate usage (15 min/user/day): ~£40 extra per user per month. Real Metered cost ~£48/user — substantially worse than Pro.
- Heavy usage (40 min/user/day, e.g. sales-led firms): ~£90 extra per user per month. Real Metered cost ~£100/user — wildly more than Pro.
If you're on Metered and you're not sure your usage profile is "light", move to Pro or get a 3CX quote with included Gamma SIP — predictable cost is the whole point of running phones.
The savings — Pro tier comparison.

Zoom Phone UK Pro pricing snapshot May 2026. 3CX numbers include licence + UK hosting + SIP + support. Smaller % saving than vs RingCentral/8x8 because Zoom Phone is genuinely priced competitively. Ex-VAT.
Why switch despite the smaller saving?
Four reasons UK Zoom Phone customers move beyond the headline price:
- PBX feature depth. Advanced call queues with announced wait time, configurable retention recording, multi-level IVR, hot desking, switchboard console — Zoom Phone Pro has lighter versions of some, doesn't have others. 3CX PRO includes them all.
- Predictable cost at growth. Per-system scales better. Adding 20 users to 3CX adds handsets but not a per-month annuity.
- UK partner relationship. One named UK contact across the whole stack instead of the Zoom UK support queue.
- UK data residency. Zoom Phone defaults to global regions; UK residency configurable. 3CX through a UK partner is UK-hosted by default.
When to stay on Zoom Phone.
- You're a 5-15 user firm and Zoom Meetings is your primary collaboration tool. Tight integration plus low scale makes Zoom Phone fine.
- You're under 10 users on Metered with genuinely low call volume. The bill is small enough that switching isn't worth the project.
- You need Zoom-specific contact-centre features (Zoom Contact Center). Zoom's contact-centre product is improving fast; 3CX AI tier isn't a peer for serious agent operations.
Switching mechanics.
- Week 1 — audit. We look at your Zoom Phone bill (tier, user count, call minutes), current call routing setup. Quote on honest-pricing.
- Week 2–4 — 3CX provisioning. UK hosting, Gamma SIP, Yealink handsets ordered, IVR rebuilt from your Zoom Phone configuration.
- Week 3–5 — porting. Zoom Phone UK numbers port out via LoA. Standard 2–4 week timeline.
- Week 5–6 — cut-over. Handsets deployed, training (Zoom Phone users adapt to 3CX desktop client quickly — same conceptual model), cut-over weekend.
- Zoom Phone contract. Typically 12-month rolling, sometimes longer with discount. Align cut-over to renewal or accept short-term overlap.
Common questions.
Will we lose Zoom Meetings integration?
Zoom Meetings is separate from Zoom Phone. You can keep Zoom Meetings as your video platform indefinitely while running calling through 3CX. Most firms do.
What about Zoom IQ for Sales?
Zoom IQ for Sales is the sales-call coaching add-on. Conceptually similar to Aircall's coaching features. 3CX doesn't have a direct peer; if you're actively using this, you may want to keep Zoom Phone for the sales pod (split-stack pattern).
Will my Zoom-only desk hardware work?
Zoom-certified desk phones generally support standard SIP and can register against 3CX with manual provisioning. Easier to swap to Yealink at cut-over — trade-rate handsets are cheaper than the work to re-provision Zoom-specific hardware.
